Picking a good office chair for home
Hey, so you know how we’ve been talking about needing a better chair for working from home? It’s such a big deal for your back and just generally feeling good when you’re sitting for hours. I’ve been checking out some chairs that aren’t super expensive but still seem really decent. I found two main ones people talk about a lot in that mid-range sweet spot: the Branch Ergonomic Chair and the Autonomous ErgoChair Pro. I’ve been trying to figure out which one might be the best pick.
Let’s talk about the Branch Ergonomic Chair first. This one usually costs a bit less, like maybe $330 to $380. It looks pretty clean and simple, which I like. It’s designed to give you the important stuff without a bunch of extra bells and whistles. The seat and back are made with comfy, high-density foam covered in fabric. It feels pretty solid, actually, like it’s built to last. The base is shiny aluminum too. You can adjust it quite a bit: the seat goes up and down, and you can slide it forward or back. The armrests are cool because you can move them up and down, forward and back, and even pivot them in or out. For your lower back, there’s a lumbar support that you can move up and down to hit the right spot, even though it always sticks out a little. You can also tilt the back of the chair and lock it wherever feels good, and change how easy or hard it is to tilt. It can hold up to 300 pounds, which is pretty standard. Putting it together sounds easy enough, maybe 20-30 minutes. And get this, it comes with a really long warranty – 7 years! The only thing is, it doesn’t come with a headrest, you’d have to buy that separately if you wanted one.
Then there’s the Autonomous ErgoChair Pro. This one is a bit more expensive, usually in the $450 to $550 range. It’s all about having a ton of adjustments, like 11 different ways to tweak it, so you can really get it just right for you. A big difference is that the back is usually a breathable mesh material, which is nice if you tend to get warm. The seat is fabric over foam, though I’ve seen some versions that are full mesh too. Like the Branch, you can adjust the seat height and depth, and the armrests move in 3D. But the lumbar support here is even better because you can adjust it up and down *and* how far it sticks out. The back also tilts, and you can adjust the tension, plus there’s a separate seat tilt option. A major plus for this one is that it *does* come with a headrest, and you can adjust its height and angle, which is awesome. It also handles up to 300 pounds. Assembly might take a little longer, maybe 30 to 60 minutes. The warranty isn’t quite as long as the Branch, usually 2 to 5 years depending on the part.
So yeah, it feels like the Branch is great value, really solid with good core adjustments and a fantastic warranty. The ErgoChair Pro gives you more ways to adjust things and includes that headrest, plus the mesh back is a popular feature, but you pay a bit more and the warranty isn’t as long.
